BUILD MORE BOATS

THIS BLOG IS NO MORE.

The Unlawful Darling Society was founded by JCS and LXS in 2008 who didn't have money to go to bars and decided to assemble gangs to go and drink the wine and talk about it. The Society was active from 2008 through 2010, in those days when lots of people in New York also didn't have any money.

In 2011, the Society began to fray. More people were busy and fewer people didn't have any money. Organizing Society outings became a chore and there was nothing ecstatic about that. At the same time, those Society members who were actually writing reviews began posting them other blogs and even sometimes in magazines.

Hurricane Irene stands out as the beginning of the end of the Society. "The Hurricane That Wasn't", Irene caused massive flooding throughout the Northeast, but left the City of New York fairly unscathed. Nevertheless, a state of emergency had been declared, subways and tunnels closed. For two days, the City was quiet -- a forced holida,  a moment to rediscover ourselves and each other. In the midst of this unexpected soul searching moment, the parasitical premise of the Society was laid bare: while it had made sense as an ecstatic survival strategy in the lean times, it no longer made sense in the new world we would make together.

A rising tide raises all boats. But if you're not in a boat, you get flooded.
